These are just a few of the sources of information I have most enjoyed. Many more are out there for you to find in your own Step Five searching.
Documentaries
Fed Up — I’ve linked to the film’s official website, but it seems the whole thing is available free on Youtube.
The Game Changers — Beautifully presented high-performance proof of what’s possible with plants. On Netflix.
Forks Over Knives — Also on Netflix, the film is perhaps the one most frequently cited among whole food plant-based folks as their inspiration for changing their lives, often overnight, as I recommend. The link will take you to the expanded resources and supportive community that are now manifest.
The Invisible Vegan — Available on Amazon Prime Video, this film is focused on the African-American community, which has the nation’s fastest growing number of vegans.
What the Health — Another Netflix offering that highlights the path to freedom provided by the True North Health Center in Santa Rosa, California.
Books
The Pleasure Trap — The book by the co-founders of True North that helped me understand that the initial pain of butterlessness wouldn’t last forever.
Fast Food Genocide — A more recent title by Eat to Live author Dr. Joel Fuhrman, focused on some of the politics and impacts associated with the seemingly but not inescapable dietary plight of those in poverty.
The Starch Solution — One of several books explaining the basis for and nuts and bolts of Dr. John McDougall’s proven diet recommendations.
Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease — By Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, one of the stars of Forks Over Knives, and the father of Engine 2/Plant-Strong founder Rip Esselstyn.
By Any Greens Necessary — By Ageless Vegan Tracye McQuirter, this tells how late comedian and activist Dick Gregory inspired her to go vegan for health and political reasons.
Other Links
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine — Aka PCRM or the Physicians Committee, this group, led by the handsome and healthy Dr. Neal Barnard, is doing great work spreading the word about the power of a plant-based diet to revolutionize individual and collective health.
Plant-Strong — Originally Engine 2, ditto the above except this one’s headed by the handsome and athletic Rip Esselstyn.
10,000 Black Vegan Women — Not just ageless, also gorgeous Tracye McQuirter is the engine for this initiative to save our lives.
The Exam Room Podcast — Entertaining, informative and inspiring, this is PCRM’s excellent podcast, hosted by The Weight Loss Champion Chuck Carroll.
Chef AJ — This now little lady has some delicious recipes, an Ultimate Weight Loss Program that I’d pay for if I was starting out today, and a charming testimony about being a fat vegan for almost 40 years before she ditched the vegan junk food.
Plantiul Kiki — I stumbled upon this lovely young lady on YouTube, and she was the one who recommended The Starch Solution and The Pleasure Trap. Lots of good info with easy breezy recipes and ideas.
